History about Capgemini

Capgemini is a global leader in consulting, technology, outsourcing, and local professional services which was formed by the merger of various companies including Ernst & Young Consulting, C.A.P and Gemini Consulting . We have headquartered in Paris, France and operate in more than 30 countries. We are, above all, a people company—nearly 74,000 people in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region.

HISTORY:

The company was founded in 1967 by Serge Kampf as Sogeti (Société pour la Gestion des Enterprises et le Traitement de l’Information)

In 1973 Sogeti acquired a majority stake in its major European IT services competitor, CAP.

In 1974 Sogeti acquired Gemini Computers Systems, a U.S. company based in New York.

In 1975, following the two major acquisitions of CAP and Gemini Computer Systems, Sogeti renames the company, “CAP Gemini Sogeti.”

In 1981 Cap Gemini Sogeti launches its U.S. operation following its acquisition of Milwaukee based DASD Corporation. a U.S. company specializing in data conversions, which employed 500 people in 20 branches throughout the U.S.

In 1986 Cap Gemini Sogeti acquired the consulting division of U.S. based CGA Computer and creates Cap Gemini America.

In 1991 Gemini Consulting was formed through the integration of five management consulting firms, including Harvard University based MAC Group.

In 1996 the name is simplified from “Cap Gemini Sogeti” to “Cap Gemini”. Cap Gemini adopts new Group logo; all operating companies worldwide re-brand to trade under the Cap Gemini name, using one name and one logo type.

In May 2000 Cap Gemini acquired Ernst & Young Consulting and formed a new company known as “Cap Gemini Ernst & Young” (CGE&Y).

In 2002, Cap Gemini re-launches its Sogeti brand, creating a new legal entity bearing the original name of the company, headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. With the selection of this name, parent company Cap Gemini SA pays tribute to its successful beginnings and actively responds to the need of the current market for high quality IT services delivered locally.

In December 2003, the firm acquired Transiciel and merged the two practices into Sogeti-Transiciel (renamed Sogeti in 2006).

In April 2004, the parent company name was changed to Capgemini (one word), its current name.

Today- Cap continues to be one of the largest consulting companies in the world, providing Management, Technology, and Operational consulting along with outsourcing and professional services.
